As I mentioned in a previous post a couple of years ago I started getting interested in making and publishing books in the Kindle format. Not only is this a convenient format to produce a book in, but it is very fast and cost-effective.
As I was interested in the Kindle books I thought I would buy my wife a Kindle for her birthday, and guess what happened? Well she read one book and then decided that she was never going to do that ever again! It wasn’t that she was ungrateful just that she is a very hands-on book type person. At the time she was writing her first book as well, ‘The history of Serre Chevalier and Briancon’, which I knew was never going to work well as a Kindle book (although I do seem to be wrong on this point I am pleased to say!) – So we were looking at different ways to get it published.
In 2007 I went to Las Vegas to an Internet marketing seminar called ‘The Authority Summit’, this was an amazing event where I got to meet some of the Internet marketing gurus of the time. But the first speaker was a lovely elderly fella called Elsom Eldridge who had written some very successful books about a wide range of subjects from life after a heart attack, how to pass exams to how to get your pilot’s licence. Elsom was very much into self publishing using the Lulu platform. For this reason I decided that we should publish my wife’s book using Lulu. However because of the sheer size and the amount of colour photographs in it, the cost was completely prohibitive.
Whilst lying in bed one morning wondering how the hell we were going to get this book published I remembered that Amazon had created a service in the US called CreateSpace. This was a self publishing platform for doing exactly what we wanted, but it was only based on the US so how were we going to do it in Europe? Luckily now CreateSpace do have facilities in Europe. But do be aware that even if you go to the European system and buy your books directly from CreateSpace they will still be printed in South Carolina.
The weird thing is is that by publishing a book with CreateSpace you automatically get the opportunity to publish your book through the Amazon network. We have noticed with my wife’s book that if we buy it from Amazon in England, France, Italy or Spain the books themselves are still printed in Milton Keynes in England.
The formatting and publishing books is not a straightforward process, but I have over 10 years experience working in the print industry and I can easily help you get your book published. If you also want to publish your book the Kindle format I can do this to.
