Ever since my brother had his first Dansette record player I have been into music. In fact I was probably into music before then as I remember listening to radio one on old Bakelite radio that my dad had made. The year was probably about 1970 and I remember specifically being into Dave Edmunds.
But it was a few years later when my brother came home with some albums by Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath and The Nice. This was quite a monumental step for me and from that points onwards I wanted to be in a band. My first band happened when I was about 14, we were very good but it did mean that all the sudden I had a different status at school. I was never particularly good at sport but now I felt like a rock star and it felt good.
I didn’t really start playing properly with a band until about 1981. With my mateTony Lamb we quickly put together a rock and blues band. Tony Lambs Boogie Box quickly became known as one of the more fun bands to go and see in Aberystwyth.
I’ve played with many other bands since my days in Wales and also had a reasonably successful career making techno music with my friend Donovan Lines. I do really want to get into doing more of this but unfortunately commitments such as earning money and spending time with the family do seem to come first.
At the moment I am playing bass guitar with a band called the Harper Brothers in the Alps. During the summer we only play once a week but during the ski season we played pretty much every day. It’s great fun and helps pays the bills throughout the winter.
