Unlocking Nokia Phones
The only way to use a mobile abroad sensibly is to have a SIM card for that country, which means that you don't have to pay for incoming calls. However many expats bring their UK phones with them, but then find that the phone is locked to a network. Unlocking is a fairly straightforward process. There are loads of people selling unlock codes on Ebay which work fine.

In June 2004 I bought a Nokia 7250i phone from a mate in France, Bud Gallimore. Bud had won it in a snowboard competition and didn't need it. The phone was locked to the UK Orange network, I tried to find out how to unlock it for free but gave up after I had looked at loads of sites saying 'how to unlock a nokia 7250i for free'.
I decided spend £4-99 getting it unlocked, this was very easy and the service was excellent. It took me about 2 minutes to do it. Here's how I got an unlock code for a Nokia 7250i.
