Internet Keyword Selection Strategy
So now you have learnt some basic SEO techniques, which keywords should you be targeting? To me unless you have a Google Page Rank of 6 or more there is no point just going for the most popular phrases as you will just be bottom of the pile in search engine results. What you need to do is to find a keyword which there aren't many sites optimized for, but a lot of people search for.
For example this page is optimised for the phrase "internet: Keyword Selection Strategy" although I could have chose "internet: Your Keyword Selection Strategy" too as there aren't many results in MSN Search.
Simlarly in Google at the time of writing this page the keyphrase "internet: Keyword Selection Strategy" gives no results whatsoever if you look for that exact phrase. "internet: Your Keyword Selection Strategy" also gives no results either.
However I do know that people are looking for results by typing these phrases into search engines every day, so by optimising this page for those terms, I should generate traffic quite easily without having to rely on the power of page rank.
How do I know this? I use Wordtracker! which in my mind is the best Internet Keyword Selection Strategy Tool available.
Wordtracker is a web based tool, there is a free version, but it's a bit limited or you can pay for the FULL version. You can buy the FULL version for 1 year, 1 month, a week or just a day. Personally what I do is if I have a project on the go I will use Wordtracker for just 1 month and go completely mad with it, trying to find all the best key phrases I can. Each time I discover a gem I email the results to myself and keep them in a folder called Wordtracker Keyphrases. This will usually keep me going for about 6 months while I design my sites around the keyphrases. Yes you did read that correctly, I design my sites around the keyphrases! Infact I even use Wordtracker before I buy a domain name.
Anyway don't take my word for it, use the Wordtracker FREE Trial and discover some keyphrases that will give you plenty of traffic.
