A question I once asked to MOTU technical support:

Hi I have bought a MOTU 2048mk2 used machine, without a manual. I am trying to install it on a PC with the PCI 324 card and the audiowire connection.

What is the correct order for installing/powering up the MOTU 2048mk2?

Q. We are trying to get a MOTU 2048mk2 with a PCI324 card working with a Athlon 2600 PC (KT4 motherboard, 512Mb RAM, 120Gb HDD, it says that no inputs or outputs are enabled. In the PCI Audio console software there appears to be a chunk missing from the middle of the software (comparing it with a screenshot on motu.com) we don’t have the BANK A BANK B BANK C pull down boxes and the configure interface menu is just blank.

I am not convinced that the PCI324 card and the 2048 are communicating properly, is there anyway of checking the audiowire connection??

A. PCI 324 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE AND TROUBLESHOOTING

1. Remove other PCI cards from the system and disable the internal sound card on the motherboard.

2. Install the latest drivers from our website from the location of extraction with card removed from the computer.
(NOTE: Be sure to remove all previous driver installs from Add Remove Software Control Panel)

3. Shut down the computer and insert card in topmost PCI slot.

4. Boot up computer - follow through Found New Hardware Wizard. Make sure that it states that it wishes to install drivers for MOTU PCI.
If not, notify immediately and take note of what it asks to install.

5. Upon installing driver, continue through other Found New Hardware wizards if they are prompted.

6. After all are completed, reboot the computer.

7. When computer is booted, check Device Manager and take note of what is listed under Sound, Video, and Game Controllers. You should see MOTU PCI 324, MOTU PCI 324 Wave Driver, and MOTU PCI-324 GSIF.

8. If you see an Unknown or Other device, try double clicking and choosing "Update Driver" follow through automatic driver installation. Reboot machine and take note of what shows in Device Manager. If correct drivers do not show, contact immediately.

Q. The device manager on the PC reports a correct installation, but when I try to run Cubase SX, it reports that I have no outputs enabled….what am I doing wrong??

A.The Enable Routing box must be checked. It must be for this to work.
A. yes

You should go to the MOTU PCI Console and be sure the outputs are set to From Computer. The manual for this unit is no longer available.

I turned out that the motherboard was incompatible with the MOTU-2048mk2 so we bought a Shuttle AN35N motherboard which made it all work fine.

The next problems were trying to get the MOTU-2048mk2 to work with Cool Edit Pro and Adobe Audition 1.5
