The importance of your site's performance in search engine rankings is probably already clear to you if you have been running your site for some time. Read on for some simple SEO advice that you can integrate into your site for increased search engine rankings.

Knowing how search engine optimization works is the first thing you need to understand. It would be ideal for humans to rank websites based on keywords and phrases that make sense. However, this task is too tedious and is given to computers that use algorithms and complex equations in order to accomplish this. The goal of SEO is to build factors into your website that are important to the way that the search engines determine a site's rank. The better your SEO implementation is the better the search engines will rank your site.

There are different things that search engines use in order to rank your website. One of these variables is the keywords you use in your site's meta tags. They also take your website's activity level into account.

Achieving a high ranking in different search engines does not happen overnight. Optimize your website so that it looks relevant to search engines. Make sure your website content, including all your headings, incorporate the keywords appropriate to your product line. Try to increase the relevance of keywords so that your page ranking will improve.

Whether a company is small or large, it's not possible to buy a higher rating for the search engines. Be that as it may, businesses can pay for sponsored or featured ad space. These spaces are generally the top three spots above search results that are called "featured results." Larger corporation seem to be the only ones that can pay for this service.

Search engine optimization is more than using keywords. The prospects of your website getting noticed by search engines can go up by how you manage links. This matters in what you link to externally and internally, as well as backlinks to you from other websites. A great way to build connections is by trading links and articles.

Targeted visitors, or visitors who are looking for products like yours, are important for getting your products sold. There will be plenty of people who come across your site by accident. When you get a random visitor, there is a very slim chance that they will help your business. Getting targeted traffic is done by using keywords that users looking for sites like yours are likely to search for and advertising on sites with similar content.

If you own a business and do not yet have a business website, you could be depriving yourself of potential customers. Getting your business online opens your doors to a vast array of potential customers, many of whom would never be able to buy from you in person. View your website as a necessity, and give it the attention it deserves. That is the most important thing you can take away from this article. Our intent is to give you information and tips that help you succeed by putting the tools and knowledge into your hands.

The content on it was pretty thin, a lot of results scraped from eBay and not done in any particular 'over time' method. I'd love to get this ranking again as I spent some time building backlinks for it, but Google would never index it.

I've now moved it to a shiny new server where hopefully it will live long a prosper.

This is the question every internet marketer on the planet asks, but what does it really mean? For example, my blog which is about internet marketing and search engine optimization is currently on the first page of Google for the phrase 'how to get number one in Google', but does that get me traffic? Not really, the bulk of my traffic is people looking for 'fake URL' or 'unlock nokia 6230i', so…do I make money from that? Yes I do, but only a little. Let me explain…

There are more web pages on the internet than there are people on the planet. The difference between people and web pages is that web pages are much easier to find than people. If you were looking for a 7 foot Scottish man with one leg who speaks Danish, Japanese and English, it would take some research to find such a man, but I bet there are one or two guys around who fit that description!

On the other hand, if you searched Google for something obscure like 'beekeeping and making honey in the orkney isles' then you would find just 37,000 results for that. Most internet marketers will tell you that keyphrases with anything less than 300,000 results are a doddle and are easy to rank for and, on the whole, they are right. To prove the point, do a search for my phrase from above…"beekeeping and making honey in the orkney isles" with the quotation marks and I guarantee this article will be number one, not because it is about beekeeping or honey, but because the only time it has ever been mentioned on the internet is here in this article.

OK, so now I have explained how to get number one in Google, and that is the answer, but, what you need to do now is to work out what the question was. It goes something like "what is the phrase that people are likely to search for that nobody else has ever thought of?".

It's actually not as hard and as weirdly tangential as I am making it sound, I'm just trying to get your interest to make you more curious about the way I work and the way you should be thinking if you want to be on the first page of Google.

It tells you what to do with it there: basically just go to settings>writing and paste your list into the 'update services' box. By default it only has http://rpc.pingomatic.com/ there so I am going to paste this list in:

http://api.moreover.com/RPC2

just click 'save changes' and you are done:)

I'll show you about Feedburner and then pinging, hopefully by then we will be kicking some Google Ass!

To enable the permalink structure to be changed in the current version of Wordpress and Semiologic Pro, the privacy settings must first be changed.

Go to settings>privacy settings and then check the box that says "I would like my blog to be visible to everyone, including search engines (like Google, Sphere, Technorati) and archivers". I don't understand why this should ever be unchecked, so make sure it isn't!

Now go to settings>permalinks.

At least change it to
"date/sample-post/"

but I find it better to use a custom string which is

/%category%/%postname%/

once this is done you need to update your .htaccess file – if this is writeable on the server, Wordpress will do it for you, if not you need to manually add this code:

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>

OK now to make a post to check it is working:

Before I did this I went to posts>categories and changed the default category 'blog' to my keyphrase 'serre chevalier services' and the post slug to 'serre-chevalier-services'.

OK I'll make my test post.

That works fine, here it is : update permalink structure
