The Apple MacBook Air: Amazingly Thin, but Amazingly Fat in Features

MacBook Air is yet another innovation by Mac innovators, with its amazingly thin structure, just 0.16 to 0.76 inches of anodised aluminium. Weighing just three pounds, this laptop is so powerful yet so portable it can go with you anywhere. The MacBook Air was unveiled by Steve Jobs in January 2008 and was available in the UK in February 2008.

A display that's unparalleled.

The widescreen LED backlit 13.3 inches of display gives you the same viewing size as MacBook's screen does. It's 1280 x 800 resolution gives sharp, vibrant images and amazing colour with no hue lost the minute you turn the notebook on. Full-scale performance, slim design, nothing lost in this newest "translation" of technology.

Tiny keyboard? Not a chance.

And don't let the slim design fool you. The keyboard is full-sized, just as the one on the MacBook is. However, with this notebook, there is backlit key illumination, so that you can work in lowlight environments such as conference halls or airplanes. There's a built-in light sensor that automatically adjusts both display and keyboard illumination for best visibility. The trackpad is also oversized and multi-touch, so your fingers never fumble when you're working.

Multi-touch, multitask.

MacBook Air's oversize trackpad with multi-touch technology lets you nimbly adjust text, zip through a photo album, or adjust an image. With a swipe, pinch or simple rotation, you have a full range of functions available to you. Now, this "touch" technology from iPhone and iPod comes to MacBook.

Now you see it, now you don't.

Don't let the thin design fool you. An easy to access but just as easy to hide port hatch contains a USB 2.0 port, a micro-DVI port that supports DVI, composite, VGA and S-video output, and a headphone jack. The MagSafe power connection has also been streamlined to fit the sleek design.

LED display, simply smart.

Because the LED display is backlit, this allows for MacBook Air's even thinner design. (And you can be proud that it is both free of mercury and arsenic as a bonus.) You get instant full-screen brightness the minute you open it, but its maximum power efficiency gives you longer battery life.

Thin - but powerful.

Don't be fooled by MacBook Air's deceptively thin exterior. It has features that would rival the most bulky desktop. 2 GB of RAM, so that you can work effortlessly with your favourite applications. 80 GB hard drive, for plenty of storage. There's also an option to upgrade to a 64 GB solid-state drive, with no moving parts so that it's even more durable.

Custom-Designed Intel Processor

MacBook Air's performance is as sleek and streamlined as its exterior. Choose from a 1.8 GHz or 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, custom-built to fit the streamlined shape.

iSight Camera, Built In

MacBook Air's iSight camera sets it apart from other sleekly built notebooks. Smartly integrated, you'll hardly notice this camera, but it makes video chatting easy anywhere you have a wireless network. iChat software completes the package.

Slimmer battery design.

Even though the battery looks smaller, its performance has not shrunk. It's the thinnest battery we've ever made, but its power is unparalleled. Surf the web wirelessly for up to five full hours.

No wires, no tethers.

Live untethered by wires, free to go anywhere. With cutting-edge technology such as the next-generation 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR all included, the wireless capabilities are unprecedented.

It's ahead of the curve.

By equating "thin" with "powerful," MacBook Air has also gotten rid of something you don't need anymore, the optical drive. Because it is built for wireless, you don't need DVDs anymore. You can just rent movies from the iTunes Store. And no more do you need to back up files to disk. Instead, you can backup files wirelessly by using Apple's new Time Capsule.

The MacBook Air (UK Version) became available in the UK in February 2008, marketed as the thinnest laptop in The World.

The MacBook Air is designed to be backed up using the revolutionary wireless Apple Time Capsule.

In February 2008 The Apple MacBook Air was shipped with Apple Leopard OSX.
