Well that is the end of that saga of my life. I have had two skewers a plate and about six screws holding my fibula together for over 18 months now and it always felt quite horrible. I had an operation in St Albans Hospital to remove the metalwork on the 11th July 2006. I stopped in the hospital overnight, where I had a nice big shot of morphine in the middle of the night and then in the morning had some breakfast and then tried to walk. It was much easier than I ever imagined it could have been and by lunchtime I was pretty much back to normal. I could tell that I had been cut well open and pulled about a bit, but the whole sensation of having a metal free foot really was worth it. I walked out the hospital and into St Albans city centre and caught a bus to Hemel Hempstead bus station. I got a 500 bus there to the station and then got a train up to Milton Keynes where I stopped with Steve and Emma.
On the Friday I went up to Stoke-On-Trent on a National Express coach from Milton Keynes Coachway. I stopped with my mum and dad for a week whilst my ankle was mending and then went back down to Milton Keynes.
Today I have flown from Luton Airport to Turin. I was hoping that I’d meet somebody I know at Turin who could give me a lift home to Serre Chevalier, but unfortunately that hasn’t happened consequently I got the Sadem bus from the airport to Porto Nouva railway station and I am currently on the 18:45 to Bardonecchia, but I am hoping that it will stop at Oulx!! Lucy (Passmore) has agreed to come and pick me up, which is fantastic news as I really have had enough of bloody public transport over the last two and a half weeks.
Getting home is something I am well looking forward to, I haven’t seen my girls all this time and I am looking forward to that. I really hope that my new metal free leg will signify a turning point in my life where things start to get better, I lose a bit more weight etc.etc.
